Abstract

Ulysses portrays the spatiality of modern Dublin through the perspectives of Bloom and Stephen, revealing the marginal state of modern individuals between "presence" and "absence." The novel's "present space," encompassing urban space, spiritual space, and historical space, reflects the existential state and spiritual predicament of modern individuals. The value of the wanderer in Ulysses lies in highlighting the essence of modern humans, who, at the edge of presence, explore the meaning of existence.
